YouTube now offers account handles for easier mentions in videos

YouTube has introduced Handles, a new way for people to easily find and connect with creators and each other on Google’s own streaming platform.

Handles appear on channel pages and shorts so they are instantly and consistently recognizable. Mentioning each other in comments, community posts, video descriptions, and more will soon be easier and faster.

“For example, creators can be featured in a mention in comments or tagged in the title of a recent collaboration, which helps them increase visibility and reach with new audiences,” the company said in a blog post.

“Handles join channel names as another way to identify a YouTube channel, but unlike channel names, handles are truly unique to each channel, allowing creators to further establish their own presence and brand on YouTube,” it added.

Over the next month, the platform will notify creators when they can choose a handle for their channel.

“In most cases, if a channel already has a personalized URL, that will automatically become their default handle, or they can choose to change the handle for their channel once the notification arrives in YouTube Studio,” the platform said .

“Because handles need to be unique and every channel on YouTube will have one, we’re introducing them gradually,” it added.

The timing of a YouTuber’s access to the Handles selection process depends on several factors, including overall YouTube exposure, number of subscribers, and whether the channel is active or inactive.
