So you’ve seen Kanye West’s ex Julia Fox and rapper Azealia Banks fight on Instagram, but you have no idea why or what started it. Then you are exactly right here. The simple answer is that these are two women who grew up in Manhattan and this type of drama is just a tag ending in a Y for a specific type of performing arts from New York. The more complicated answer involves lots of Instagram stories, Kanye West, and allegations of drug use, sex work, and coolsculpting. Let’s go into it chronologically.
Azealia versus Kanye
Banks feuded with West long before Fox came into the picture. 2018, Banks slammed Kim Kardashian for defending West’s pro-Trump statements. “Kanye will never be the President and you will never be the First Lady,” she wrote on Instagram.
In 2020, Banks predicts that Kardashian would divorce West in 2026so she was right, but off by a couple of years.
A year later, Banks released a song called “Fuck Him All Night,” and the album cover for the single featured nail art that read “KANYE WEST.” The song was originally going to be titled after West, which Banks said in one go Rolling Stone interview was because “Kanye used to troll me a lot”. In the same interview, Banks said, “Hear my music. Listen to the music of Kanye West over the past five years. I am superior. I don’t have to talk about what’s beneath me. He sold sneakers I guess and did rude shit, everything but the music. If Kanye comes up with something important, I guess we can talk.”
For his part, West never really commented on this.
Kanye meets Julia
On January 2 of this year, West and Fox went on their first date Carbon in Miami. As you may recall, the world seemed to split in half at that moment. Two days later they were in New York See slave game and back to Carbone. Fox wrote about this whirlwind romance for Interview Magazineand suddenly people who didn’t feel like it Unpolished gems knew her name.
In early January, Banks took her first shot at Fox on Instagram. “LOL Kanye is already snorting dog food (heroin) with this girl,” she wrote. Banks also called Fox “a dirty junkie who was pregnant,” and said she just turned down a collaboration with West.
In February, Banks wrote another Instagram screed, this time in response to West’s comments about his daughter North being on TikTok against his will and that West himself was allegedly not invited to his daughter Chicago’s birthday party. “Let Chicago hang out with him and Julia’s awful coolsculpting while they get drunk and high so Julia can blow steam in Chicago’s face,” Banks wrote. This was the same post where Banks coined the phrase “eating dirty steaks in LES bars.” Say what you want, but the woman is good with words.
Julia fights back
After Fox and West split last week, Fox wrote on Instagram that it was her not crying about it and actually that she was a “Hustler #1”. Banks screenshotted an article on the post and shared it with her story, writing, “We already know the Tea Foolia! You came to Miami looking for sex work, the same attorney was in touch with you, and it was a flimsy PR stunt from the start.” Banks also spoke again about Fox’s alleged drug abuse, calling the actress a “liability” for it West in his ongoing divorce proceedings.
On Tuesday, Fox apparently decided she’d had enough and texted Banks to stop talking about her son. Fox told Banks that she intends to release a podcast recording in which Banks is transphobic and claims to be on the same level as Beyoncé and Rihanna. As expected, Banks shared a screenshot of this entire exchange on her Instagram story.
Fox then shared a different Text exchange, as of May 2021, where Banks had come to Fox looking for a drug dealer who could sell her Percocet and MDMA. Banks later claimed that the drugs weren’t for her, but for someone who gave her “dirty Brooklyn cock.” Today, Banks went on to explain that the Percocet was for a man who has two rods in his spine and is in pain during sex.
Banks escalated things by sharing screenshots of Fox, asking her if she’d like the paparazzi to photograph her and if she had any contacts who could get her a hotel suite. Banks also shared a photo of what appears to be Fox with a syringe in his arm.
What did we learn?
Fox has since deleted all of her posts, but Banks’s are still active (except for Fox’s photo — apparently there’s a line). If we get anything out of this debacle, it should be a prayer that we never cross Azealia Banks. If you meet her in the wild, don’t tell her any of your secrets and never, never send her everything in writing. This may not even be enough. When you meet the LaGuardia graduate somewhere Around 212 it’s best to turn around and go as fast as you can.
