iPhone and iPad have a dedicated QR scanner app. Here’s how to use them

At this point, you’ve probably scanned hundreds of QR codes with the camera app on your iPhone and iPad. But did you know that iOS and iPadOS actually have a dedicated QR scanner app built right in? Once the feature is enabled, scanning a code becomes far too easy and you don’t have to wrestle with your iPhone to tap the link for more details. You can quickly access this app right from Control Center, which is nothing but a great convenience.

This scanner is extremely easy to use. Just point your phone or tablet at the code and it will take effect immediately. No more trying to click a floating link like you do in the camera app, as the built-in scanner responds instantly when links are opened. Here’s how to enable the feature now.

The most amazing thing about this feature is how it instantly opens a web link right inside the app itself. This is a great little feature if you don’t want to add a brand new tab to Safari. In fact, you also have the option to open the link in Safari instead if it’s something important so you can save it for later.

When you scan a YouTube link, the Code Scanner app instantly launches the YouTube app (if installed) on your iPhone and iPad, so you can jump straight into the action without waiting.

There’s even a flashlight button in the app that you can use to illuminate a QR code if needed.

The only real downside of this app is this; No photos or videos are taken, meaning you can’t save an image of the QR code if you want. The camera app is the way to go for that.
